Dual Ended
The FT-6 features a dual design with a flaring tool and an insertion tool at either end of the handle. The flaring end of the tool facilitates the expansion of the cable, providing easier insertion of "F" connectors. The insertion end makes "F" connector insertion fast and easy, even in cold weather – a feature that saves your fingers and can be performed with gloves on if needed.
Screwdriver Grip
A handle with a sturdy grip gives you something substantial to hold on to when flaring cable and inserting connectors. The FT-6 tool features a standard screwdriver grip that is 4-3/8” long that makes it much easier to use and control.
Cable Flaring
To use the FT-6 Flaring and Insertion Tool, first prepare the cable using a cable prep tool. Next, fold the three outer layers of exposed braided foil down around the outer PVC jacket of the cable. Insert the cable into the end of the flaring tube of the tool between the bonded braid and the three outer layers of exposed braided foil. Gently push the cable into the tool, making sure not to damage the dielectric or jacket (which would make terminating the cable with a connector more difficult). The FT-6 will make a channel between the braids, making it easier to slide an F connector onto the cable.
Connector Insertion
Now that the cable has been flared, you’re ready to install a connector. Thread the connector onto the insertion end of the FT-6 tool, and insert the end of the stripped and flared cable into the connector using a pushing and rotational motion until you bottom out or feel a stop. This will indicate the dielectric is centered and flush inside the cable. Now, the cable is now ready for compression. Finish off the job by using your favorite compression tool. That’s all it takes to efficiently flare cables and insert connectors!
